St. Louis Schools’ Pandemic Meal Plan
During the global pandemic, we are all experiencing uncertainty. Social distancing and school closures have all of us scrambling to create a new normal. If we had to guess, we would venture to say that the most frequently uttered phrase recently is, “I don’t know.”
I don’t know when I will find toilet paper. I don’t know how to homeschool. I don’t know if I can work from home. I don’t know how I will pay my bills without being able to go to work. I don’t know when I will get to hug my grandparents again. I don’t know how all of this is going to work. I don’t know how I will feed my children breakfast and lunch during school closings in STL.
As anxiety increases around school closings in the St. Louis region, school districts are working with policymakers to relieve as much stress as possible. One of the biggest concerns is providing meals to minors.
At Blueprint4Summer, we have been heartened to see our community pull together to address this critical concern facing all our kids. We encourage families to visit All Our Kids – Food Sites for up-to-date information about where and how students can access healthy, nutritious meals.
Please note that most of these meals are “Grab and Go” style (meaning the student can’t stay to eat the meal) and most locations require the student to be present. However, most locations don’t require the student to be enrolled at that school, allowing families to go to whatever location is easiest to reach.
Please follow the protocol for reducing the spread of Covid-19:
- Wash your hands. You can sing Happy Birthday twice to ensure a thorough cleaning.
- Stand 6 feet away from others in the same location.
- Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth.
- Cough or sneeze into your bent arm.
- Avoid shaking hands, hugging, or other physical contact with people.
- Stay home when you are sick.
We understand that all of the unknowns during this time can be hard on families. If you are feeling overwhelmed and scared, follow Mr. Rogers’ advice: look for helpers. In times of crisis, there are always helpers. Also, do your best to enjoy this time reconnecting with your loved ones. We are all in this together and you are not alone.
Our passion at Blueprint4Summer is children and their families. We pride ourselves in providing the latest information on where and how to entertain children locally. Check our blog for more resources and things to do with your family in St. Louis this spring and summer.
